This is the 2nd episode of PromQueen, where Danica Ashby, the London “journalist-to-be” learns about prom through creating a video yearbook of her peers in highschool. Ben Simmons receives a text message from some unknown user on his cell phone.  I couldn’t tell which kind of mobile it was, but I know it definitely wasn’t a Helio.
 I foresee a bit of “New-Media” product placement for these mini-serials in the future.  It makes sense because the serials are short & too the point, and the advertising overall is not overwhelming.  The old format of advertising on television was the typical 30-sec or 1-minute ad spot.  Through new media, you can have a very strong showing with less than 5 seconds of an ad-pitch.  PromQueen had 3 ads in total, a pre-roll, and 2 post-roll ads.  I felt that they were done extremely well and were seamless.  The timing of the ads were perfect & for me, made you want to be interested in them.  In this episode 2, you had an Ad for July 2007 musical movie re-make of Hairspray (pre & post), and an ad for Vcast (postroll).

I’m definitely going to be taking out 2 minutes of my day to watch this new show daily.  I would expect many video bloggers to do the same, as this show will be a platform for many existing & future players.
The problem I do have with PromQueen is that I noticed that the “‘Characters” each have a MySpace.  It makes you wonder where do you draw the line between “Acting” and the “Social network.”  I mean, actors are actors, but, I thought the social networks were there for you to actually meet, build meaningful relationships & network with real people.  I am wondering whether or not Danica’s 147 friends (including Tom) are all members of the show, or people that are interested in networking or truly making Danica (the person)–or is it the “PromQueen Character — as a friend.  I guess I’ll have to add them to my MySpace & find out.
