The new Apple TV is a bridge between your computer & your tv. You can download a movie on your computer & watch it on your television. It uses a mini remote to be able to transfer, download & manipulate files.
Apple TV uses a wireless network, so all you have to do is plug in the box. This makes it very easy to use. The first problem I see is that this is another “Box” in your household. Not only you have your laptop or PC, then you’ll have your regular TV, & maybe even your cable box, and then your Xbox in between them. Most likely, you’ll have your DVD player, another box included & given the fact that people just like to hold onto things, you also may have your VCR Box on the side.

One key feature is that you can use your Ipod to upload & FTP through AppleTV to your television set as well. Add that mini-Ipod box to your list of boxes. I think AppleTV is a great addition to streamline your content to your tv, however, I think the future of it will have to be integrated “inside” of televisions. Maybe this will be the future concept of AppleTV? I can definitely see this as a proof of concept, basically what Microsoft did with Windows & PC’s, AppleTV can do with digital content & television.
The other issue I see with AppleTV is that it only works on a widescreen tv. I’m not sure if everyone has adopted the widescreen yet. I know I haven’t. So, why is it just for widescreens? My only thought any other model is just too old for the type of technology that AppleTV provides.
Similar products to AppleTV is XBox 360. They both offer high definition & you can download movies from the Internet directly. NTGear Digital Entertainer is a $400 comparable product, which also allows you to download.
With AppleTV you can develop a photo albulm on your television as well as stream over your music downloads. Think of creating your own photo/music show right from your widescreenTV, while entertaining guests. This will definitely take off in the DJ & club venue industry. Developing playlists & being able to produce through widescreens is very effective in a nightclub where DJ’s can now have control over the widescreen televisions as they get their crowds going.
Overall, I wish you were able to use AppleTV on any tv, but more importantly, I just wish I didn’t have to have another box. But wait, I won’t have to have another box. I don’t even have a widescreen, therefore, I won’t need AppleTV!
