Move Over Matt McConaughey’s 1999 Edtv, Welcome Web 2.0 with Justin.TV

Justin Kan, is about to hit it big with a new start-up, Justin.TV. He is filming his life with the aid of the following:

  1. A Head Cam
  2. 4 EVDO Cards
  3. Some Batteries
  4. The World At Large
  5. The Blogosphere & Internet

I was a definitely a fan of Jim Carrey’s 1998 film “The Truman Show,” & Matthew Mconaughey’s “Edtv.” So, I’m very interested in seeing how Justin.TV will unfold. I think the show will definitely be successful as long as it’s kept in “Hollywood” style motion. They need to understand where they are going, and push the envelope as much as possible. The only way to find the kinks in their own system is to push it to a level, whether it be system wise, operational wise or even content wise (Justin’s daily life). I think this is where they will get the most support.
Justin.TV allows you to watch Justin Kan himself and his daily activities. You will actually get to follow along with him around town, and even interact with people online. I’m currently watching the show right now & I am to test this concept by making contact & conducting a live interview with Justin & his fellow colleagues, Michael, who is COO of Justin.TV.

The rest of the team includes: Kyle (The Hardware Hacker), he aided in building the camera for the show, and Emmet (The Software Hacker), who co-founded Kiko and was also the primary software engineer on the company that was sold to Ebay. The company was called Kiko, but did not have a strategic growth given that Google came out with their own Google Calendar application.
While I was watching, at around 1:30, Justin was speaking to some woman and stated about how they plan to create web cams for everyone to use as a mobile platform. This would be completely sick. Just think how this would have an effect on Spring Breakers! Watch out Joe Franics, Girls Gone Wild might just go obsolete!

This report first hit TechCrunch, and it seems as though Richard White over at Height 1% was thinking just like me. My original article title was “The Truman Show Has Hit Web2.0 with Justin.TV”, however, Richard was on my same wavelength. So I opted to change it.

Technically, I cofounded Kiko and was the primary software engineer on the project.

Emmet, Thanks for the update! Also, thank you guys for taking out the time for the quick interview. Hopefully, I’ll get some more time, as I know you guys have a busy schedule at the moment.
