Revver
Company Background

This company started back in January 2005, the first video-sharing platform to provide an income to people who wanted to make their own video. Although, many video makers were early adopters of YouTube, Revver has a great platform where a user can get a 50/50 split of advertising revenue. The service has id-tracking technology, whereas each video is not only has identification, but also is placed with an advertising snippet at the end of the video. This is beneficial as a user doesn’t have to worry about if money will be made on the video, they can worry about just increasing the traffic to their personal video.

Strategic Philosophy

The strategic philosophy today is to promote democracy in creating and sharing video content, while ensuring that independent artists are compensated for their efforts. Revenue sharing as a business model can be very effective if users understood it clearly. It will allow for featured artists who seek quality and growth to prosper and allow for strategic competition.

Mission:

Revvers mission is to support the free and unlimited sharing of online content and reward the independent media artist. This mission statement is definitely democratic in nature, and very powerful if the company stays true to the statement. The company supports Net Neutrality which basically means that networks should be neatural and their shall be no restrictions to communicate or express on the internet.
Vision:

Today, I think that Revver’s vision is to quickly expand the user base of filmmakers on the site. Not that they are a latecomer in the video-sharing category, but, YouTube has become a giant in the marketplace and now this competitor may be taking on revenue-sharing as an additional feature.
Finance:

Revver provides a 50/50 split for account holders. The key to making money is basically driving immense traffic to your site. Monetization will happen automatically because as long as the video is watched, the ad will be place in the beginning, middle or end of the video. In effect, Revver is profiting off a 50 % ad generating revenue model.

Operations:

Revver operates as a free service for users. The company employs 30 people and is head up by CEO, Steven Starr.
Today, there are conflicts of interest between embedding Revver video on MySpace. Micki Krimmel, Director of Community at Revver commented on Mashable regarding that Revver was working with MySpace to fix issues regarding embedding users videos. The conflict may arise with Revvers video ads vs. MySpace ads competing in one space (a MySpace users account). But, this issue is based on some corporate policy handed down most likely. At the end of the day, its just an advertisement on top of someones creative freedom. It’s not like the creators of content are complaining about the ads they are receiving on their content…..yet.

Some of the viral videos that have become quality on the webspace and have made their directors, actresses and actors a lucrative career in this new-media age. A few of my favorite shows are below:

HappySlipLonelyGirl15The Show - ZeFrankSam Has 7 Friends
These sites all have some great shows. But I just found this one, and I couldn’t believe it. This guy beat his own children and put it on the net!
