A few months back, I was conducting some research on I don’t even know what. But I remembered this one interesting site that mashed up Google Maps and photos. This was a project created by Jesse Vig, a grad student at University of Minnesota. He’s studying computer science and is a software engineer.
geoGreeting allows you to type in a message and get a photo-mosaic of buildings around the world. Basically, the service uses Geo Maps and shows actual birds-eye view of images of buildings. Vig hopes to amass a collection of these building photos and a user community has been helping him find these photos.
Currently the site has been viewed over 570,000 times. Additionally, Vig has created an option for MySpace users to send an E-card which will link to your geoGreeting. I’ve created an Earth Message for you as well here.
