I was searching the net, and finally came across The Next Big Thing.
Next Big Thing Recruitment is a company based in the UK, developed by 2 people, who came to a point in their careers at one time where there were unemployed from the fabulous life of pretending to be someone else; acting. Next Big Thing is unique because it provides an unfulfilled niche market of talent and caters to a market that seeks the skills and abilities of up and coming and professional actors.
In the entertainment world, work could be 24/7, but more often than not, work can last a few months, or even just a few days. In this industry, budding actors are constantly on a daily grinding, always seeking and looking out for their big break, or better yet, their “Next Big Thing.“
Next Big Thing recruits out of work actors and places and provides work to businesses in need of actors. The Founders, Anna Acton, and Ben Hull, positions Next Big Thing as the company that provides services to companies that suffer bad PR. With this recruitment agency, solutions such as public speaking, role-playing, modeling and promotions, corporate videos and even party people provide a means for actors to continue working and businesses to leverage their brand image.
I think this is a great concept and offers fresh opportunities not only for businesses but also out-of-work actors. The model allows for the company to create jobs and a service that can essentially help people. This is a simplistic business model that will always stand the test of time. Additionally, it’s a model that caters to a targeted audience of service providers.
I profiled this company (which started in January 2006) given that I that in only a year, Acton & Hull, became entrepreneurs. That had a passion and a drive to achieve an initiative. They had no direct experience in this area of recruiting, however, they did what it took to learn, plan, execute and develop a successful and thriving side-business. Isn’t moonlighting wonderful?
Anna Acton is an established actor who was nominated for Best Actress at The British Soap Awards in 2003, for UK shows such as soap opera called “Family Affairs.” Ben Hull, a 13 year veteran played on other B.B.C shows such as “Children’s Ward,” “Coronation Street” and “Casualty.”
